Despite facing sanctions from the United States, Huawei continues to advance its 5G technology by gradually reducing reliance on American components in its base stations. Meanwhile, the White House is rallying its allies to block the adoption of Huawei’s 5G equipment. However, these challenges haven’t deterred Huawei’s commitment to research and development.

Huawei’s Way to De-Americanization

Chinese media reports reveal that Huawei is poised to introduce a groundbreaking 5G base station with an unprecedented feature – ultra-low power consumption, requiring only 5W, equivalent to that of an energy – efficient lightbulb. This pioneering technology is set to alleviate the power consumption issues commonly associated with 5G equipment.

Huawei recently unveiled the Mate 60 Pro smartphone, equipped with an advanced 7nm chip, effectively circumventing the U.S. semiconductor restrictions. Following this success, they introduced their latest tablet, the Mate Pad Pro, featuring the revolutionary “NearLink” technology, which enables seamless, short-range wireless connections, potentially replacing Bluetooth.

Can Huawei’ 5W ultra-low power light up?

As 14th Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF2023) is scheduled for on October 10th and 11th in Dubai, Huawei has teased a remarkable innovation to be unveiled at the forum: ultra-low-power 5G base stations, touted as an industry-exclusive “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution, meaning they consume no power when not actively transmitting data. It is expected to significantly reduce the power consumption of 5G base stations, requiring no more power than a 5W energy-saving light bulb.

Apart from the forum’s slogan “Bringing 5.5G into Reality,” Huawei boldly states, “Can a mere 5W of ultra-low power only light up a small energy-saving light bulb? More! It can also power an entire 5G base station.” The new base station will support advanced features, including a 99% deep sleep mode, on-demand wake-up, and millisecond-level shutdown.

Reports highlight that Huawei’s product not only greatly reduces energy consumption during idle periods at the equipment level but also ensures a seamless business experience. Moreover, it meets differentiated performance requirements at the network level while maximizing energy efficiency around the clock.
